Seven Practices for Safer Computing

There is a growing war in the cyber world that is being orchestrated by hackers who have no love for anyone but are only interested in their selfish gains. As we continue to surf the internet, there is nothing as good as being informed and being prepared way before you are a victim. It is proper to always have yourself armed because forewarned is forearmed. Here are some seven practices you always have to have in mind and heart for safe computing with the Makerere community and also out there.

  1. Protect your personal information. It's valuable.
  2. Know whom you're dealing with.
  3. Use anti-virus [The Makerere University Antivirus can be downloaded from here, it also has instructions for intalling ] and anti-spyware software, as well as a two-way firewall, and update them all regularly.
  4. Be sure to set up your operating system and Web browser software properly, and update them regularly.
  5. Protect your passwords.
  6. Back up important files.
